Transparency International Canada welcomes new Executive Director, UCBA Executive Member Alesia Nahirny

nahirnyAs of June 1, TI-Canada has a full-time Executive Director, Alesia Nahirny. Alesia is a lawyer and a trained mediator. She holds a Master’s degree from the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies both from the University of Toronto.  Alesia obtained her law degree from the University of Ottawa and has worked for the Department of Justice both in Ottawa and Toronto. She has worked extensively in the anti-corruption field including for Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin where her work included the publication of the 2008 Report on Revenue Transparency of Oil and Gas Companies. She was also a member of the Judicial Advocacy Working Group advancing the movement’s fight against judicial corruption and strengthening the impact of the 2007 Global Corruption Report. Alesia has helped to organize a number of TI international and regional conferences including the 12th International Anti-Corruption Conference in Guatemala City. Prior to joining TI-Canada as Executive Director, Alesia ran her own legal practice.
