UCBA member stars in “Love’s Labour’s Lost”

For the past six years (since its inception,) Peter Hamiwka has participated in in Nightwood Theatre’s Lawyer Show – Nightwood is Canada’s national women’s theatre company, and the Lawyer Show is their principal annual fundraiser. Each year they mount a play cast entirely with lawyers. They have done Shakespeare comedies every year so far – this year it will be Love’s Labour’s Lost, with a cast of 36 lawyer/actors, running May 28-30 at the Jane Mallet Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre in Toronto.

Many of those participating have had some theatre/drama training or experience prior to becoming lawyers, and this is no “amateur” production – the creative team and everyone behind the scenes are theatre professionals of the highest order. The productions always turn out great, which is amazing considering the relatively short rehearsal period that they have and the logistical difficulties of working with 30+ busy lawyers. The show is always great fun to do (with song-and-dance numbers!) and the audiences always find it very enjoyable. Tickets are now on sale at the St. Lawrence Centre box office – should you order tickets, please mention the ticket code “alancumming”. If you’d like to attend, get your tickets soon – the show usually sells out. And please feel free to pass this on to anyone else who you think may be interested.
